Brief Introduction ：
Information Management & Information Systems is an interdiscipline combing computer science, information technology, management, economics, system science, operations research, etc. It’s supported by the point of view of system, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research tools and related disciplines to study and resolve the problems of information management in the various social systems. The major was established in 1993 and began to enroll students nationwide in 1994. The graduates have been working in corporations and companies.
Special features:
Our specialty lies in the research and development of intelligence shipping system. We have been entrusted with projects of Shanghai Port Factory, Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co., Ltd., Shanghai Maritime Affairs Bureau. We devote ourselves to applying new AI tech to information analysis, decision support systems and optimal scheduling in shipping field with the purpose of forming a unique maritime intelligent information processing technology.
Goal
Aiming at informational destruction, we are training interdisciplinary talents who have theoretical knowledge of modern management science and adept computer skills and can be engaged in Software development, information systems analysis and design, information technology research in IT companies, national administrations, financial institutions, research institutions and schools.
Courses offered
English, advanced mathematics, linear algebra, probability theory and mathematical statistics and other engineering required courses must be learnt in a year and a half after enrollment. The major courses next include management courses and information science courses. Management courses contain Microeconomics, Principles of Accounts, Marketing, Production and Operations Management, Principles of Management, Financial Management, Statistics, Operations Research and its algorithm,; Information science courses contain Discrete mathematics, high-level programming, object-oriented programming, computer theory and compilation, data structures, operating systems, computer networks, information resource management, information systems analysis and design, database theory and applications, decision support system, the development of e-commerce systems technology, information security, Introduction to E-commerce, IT project management, logistics, information systems, international shipping management, Introduction to port, logistics systems planning and design, etc.
Staff
The staff consists of with 13 full-time teachers, including 3 Professor / PhD supervisors and 4 Associate Professors / Master Instructor. More than 50% of teachers have a doctor degree (including postdoctoral) and the teachers have an average age of less than 40 years old. In recent 5 years, we have been entrusted with over 10 national and provincial Projects such as “863”and over 30 projects from government and enterprises. We have also published more than 10 Academic monographs, teaching material and over 100 theses.
Employment
Due to the high cross of the major, the graduates have a wide choice for job. Based on personal expertise, students can undertake the job of IT application development as well as the job of management with IT background.

The production-study-research combination
The members of us had participated in the ‘Mountain climbing’ project applied by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co., Ltd. for research and application of the core technology of effective intelligent stereo loading container terminal, and we were entrusted with the projects of ‘research and optimization of container yard allocation strategy’ and ‘research of double-40-feet container transport yard handling plan’ to make the industry-learning-research combination with enterprises.
